Karin Schulte, Investment Trusts and Funds specialist

Karin Schulte will be your host for this event.  She has worked in global logistics, investment banking and private equity in Asia for a total of 25 years based in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Karin is currently based in the UK and actively invests in listed and unlisted companies. Karin has extensive experience also in the not-for-profit sector both in the UK and internationally. Karin has a portfolio of roles and has a particular interest in the next generation of leaders.

Andrew is the founder of Holland Advisors and Portfolio Manager of the VT Holland Advisors Equity fund. The VT Holland Advisors Equity Fund, launched on 21st June 2021, has been converted from the Farnam Street Capital Fund which had been in existence since 2011. Andrew and Holland Advisors provide investment advisory services to some of the world’s largest Investment management houses.

Andrew set up Holland Advisors in 2009 after a 20 year career in stock broking and fund management. He has had a passion for value and franchise investing for many years. When he is not in the office, Andrew can be found reading anything written by great investors or business managers, swinging a golf club or trying to keep up with his wife and teenage boys on a ski slope.

Company Presentation – JPMorgan European Growth & Income plc

JPMorgan European Growth & Income plc has a distinctive strategy for investing in Europe – with an enhanced dividend policy. The investment managers focus on building a core portfolio of European equities comprising well managed companies with improving prospects and attractive valuations. The Company will pay out 4% of the net asset value as dividends set at the start of each financial year subject to sufficient distributable reserves. This dividend policy does not compromise the investment managers’ investment approach, which is focused on continuing to generate total returns in excess of the MSCI Europe ex UK index.

Tim Lewis, executive director, is a portfolio manager within the J.P. Morgan Asset Management International Equity Group, based in London. An employee since 2013, Tim joined the firm as a graduate trainee. He obtained a BA in Business and Economics at Trinity College Dublin, and a MSc in Behavioural Economics from the University of Nottingham. Tim is a CFA charterholder.

Nippon Active Value Fund (“NAVF”) is an Investment Trust listed on the Premium Segment of the London Stock Exchange. The investment advisor of the Fund is Rising Sun Management Limited. NAVF is targeting attractive levels of capital growth for shareholders from the active management of a focused portfolio of (predominantly) quoted Japanese equity investments. Rising Sun Management Limited, with its local presence in Tokyo targets companies which are attractive, undervalued and have a substantial proportion of their market capitalisation held in cash and/or listed securities and/or realisable assets.

Paul ffolkes Davis, Chairman

The Chairman of Rising Sun Management Ltd, Paul has over 40 years’ experience in the financial services industry. With an initial focus on fixed income, he progressed through managing principal trading books, to running the equity capital markets divisions of several leading investment banks.  Previous directorships have included: N M Rothschild & Sons Ltd (where he was part of the team that privatised the world), NatWest Markets and Rabobank International.

From September 2004 until March 2020, Paul was the Bursar of Trinity Hall, one of Cambridge University’s oldest colleges, responsible for its operational estate and managing its investments in both diverse securities and property portfolios. Under his tutelage the college’s endowment grew seven-fold to over £320 million. While at Cambridge, he chaired the University’s Board of Scrutiny and the Bursars’ Investment Committee.  In June 2012, Paul founded Cambridge and Counties Bank, a specialised property lender, and acted as its first Chairman. Subsequently, he served as Vice-Chairman and Chairman of its Nominations & Governance Committee.

He holds MA degrees from both Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Founder and Editor – Andrew Latto, CFA founded this website with the objective of providing unbiased fund analysis and views. Andrew previously worked at an equity research house and a fund manager and follows the quality investing approach.  He aims to use this background in equity research to “look under the hood” and consider the stocks that funds hold. Andrew has eight years experience at an equity research company, four years at a boutique fund manager. Qualifications held: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Investment Management Certificate (IMC), Masters (MSc) Accounting & Finance, Masters (MSc) Economic History, LSE, Degree (BSc) Business Economics.

Founder message: “Stock investing is hard.  Investment funds – active or passive – are the most appropriate vehicle for the vast majority of investors.  However, fund research is often biased and of mixed quality (link).  Fundhunter’s objective is to cover funds in an easy to understand manner.”
