Douglas Grant, CEO

Douglas Grant has over 30 years’ experience working in finance, initially with Scottish Power, before moving to the industrial sector to work with ICI and then Allenwest. Prior to joining Manx Financial Group PLC, he was finance director of various UK and Isle of Man private sector companies and has extensive capital markets experience. He is a professionally qualified banker with an executive MBA.  Appointed to the Board on 14 January 2010 and appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 3 November 2021. He is the Managing Director of Conister Bank Limited

James Smeed, Group Finance Director

James Smeed, Group Finance Director

James has over 15 years financial services experience, having started his career with KPMG in audit and assisting in transaction services. He joined the Group in August 2012 as Group Head of Finance and was appointed to the Bank’s Board as Finance Director in 2017 and to the Group’s Board in 2021. He is both a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Tax Adviser and Treasurer of the Isle of Man Bankers Association. Appointed to the Board on 3 November 2021.

Matt Timmins, Joint CEO

Matt has executive responsibility for Fintel’s Fintech and Research division (Defaqto) as well as the PLC’s Marketing strategy. Alongside Neil Stevens, he is responsible for the vision and strategy of the business. Matt joined SimplyBiz at inception in 2002 and was appointed joint CEO in 2010. Previous employment includes GE Capital, Misys and DBS Financial Management.

David Thompson, CFO

David is responsible for financial strategy of Fintel, overseeing all aspects of financial planning and reporting and management of financial risks.

David joined Fintel in April 2021 as CFO, bringing with him a broad range of commercial and management experience. David is a qualified chartered accountant and has held senior public practice and industry roles, gaining exposure to a variety of commercial and technical issues.

Most recently, he has been the CFO at AIM-listed Smart Metering Systems (SMS), after being promoted from group and divisional finance director in 2017. He has also held a number of senior finance positions at Energetics Utility Group, Johnston Carmichael and PwC.

Gareth Samples, CEO

With 30 years’ industry experience, Gareth brings a wealth of Estate Agency, Financial Services and digital marketing knowledge to the Group.

In his 21 year career at LSL Gareth was appointed Managing Director of the Your Move brand, which was the largest single brand estate agency in the UK at the time. In this role he was responsible for Your Move’s franchise operation as well as having overall control of Financial Services and Lettings and the strategy of the brand.

Following his successful career at LSL, Gareth became Managing Director of Briefyourmarket.com where he gained significant digital marketing experience and knowledge and since 2014 he has served as Chairman of Legalforlandlords. Gareth formally joined the Group as CEO on 30 April 2020.

David Raggett, CFO

Since qualifying with PwC as a Charted Accountant David has spent his whole working life in franchising as franchisor and franchisee. Initially David held financial responsibility for several Ford franchises before, in the mid 90s, moving to Porsche’s UK headquarters. Here he held financial responsibility for its distribution, retails and financial services businesses at various times, as well as being their company secretary and, for several years, Head of Legal.

In 2007 David took up the role Finance Director for the Motability Scooter and Powered Wheelchair Scheme to restore its financial stability, to improve its offering and to expand its customer base. After successfully turning the scheme around and leading it into new ownership, David joined the Group in February 2013.
