Edward Croft is co-founder and CEO of Stockopedia.com. He previously worked as a wealth manager at Goldman Sachs and for a family office before founding Stockopedia. Ed graduated from Oxford University with first-class honours in Chemistry, is a Chartered Financial Analyst and Zend-Certified PHP Engineer.

Ed Croft took on a new initiative at the Stockopedia HQ in early 2020. They started an Investment Club for the team.  The main goal was to find a way for the team to kindle a lifelong interest in stock markets and investing and hopefully profit along the way.  They have performed incredibly well and will share the story with us…

Oliver Cooper is a CFA® charterholder, specialising in funds and portfolios at Stockopedia.com. He has previously worked with Towry Investment Management and prior to that with Invesco Perpetual. Oliver has a first-class honours degree in Economics from the University of Birmingham and the Certificate in Investment Management (IMC).

Cliff Weight has been a stock market investor since 1984. He now focuses on smaller growth companies. 18:30  Company update- Bioventix Plc. 

Bioventix manufactures and supplies high affinity sheep monoclonal antibodies (SMAs) for use in diagnostic applications such as clinical blood testing.

Tonight at Mello Monday, Peter Harrison CEO returns to update us on the latest annual results to 30th June 2020.  Bioventix has been a top performing Mello regular presenting company since their appearance at Mello 2014 in Derby.  Any investor who attended then and invested in Bioventix would have had a ten-fold return.

Steve Clapham

This month Specialist Insights comes from Steve Clapham on accounting red flags and investing top tips from his Behind the Balance Sheet training courses. Steve runs a Forensic Accounting Course for some of the biggest investment institutions and hedge funds and he is a former partner and head of research at two multi-billion hedge funds himself, so he knows what he is talking about. Expect some practical tips which you can immediately put into practice and help avoid losers (accounting red flags) and identify winners (investing tips). Behind the Balance Sheet is an investment research consultancy which creates bespoke research for large institutional investors and produces training programmes for their analysts and portfolio managers. The firm was founded in 2012 by Steve Clapham, who has 30 years of experience analysing and investing in equities. Leon is a recently retired professional investor. Prior to his retirement he was founder and managing director of Equity Strategies, a boutique corporate finance firm. Leon started his career at EY where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Leon has been investing since his late teens. In 1993 he opened his first PEP and has since achieved annualised returns of 18.42% (to Dec 2019).

After completing his B.Eng (Electrical), Melwin followed his passion for stock investing and  worked in private equity, a family office and an activist hedge fund. For the last 20 years, he has annually met 250+ companies across diverse industries. He invests with a long term ownership mindset and seeks multi-baggers. He is the Portfolio Manager of MI Sterling Select Companies Fund. Outside of work, he is a board member of Young Enterprises, member of the CFA UK Society of Investment Professionals and active in saving bees.

Kevin began his City career 27 years ago, training as an actuary with a focus on defined benefit pension schemes. In 1997 he moved over to Investment Banking and joined a structured finance team working on complex projects and debt finance for large corporates. During those 27 years of financial markets experience Kevin has been a keen small cap investor looking after his family’s portfolios and trading on both the long and the short side of markets. Kevin is one of the more sceptical member of our panel and likes to see proof that demonstrate management’s claims before investing in a management team.
